INSIDE THE STUDIO

A closer look at the hands, decisions,

and techniques behind each Aiko Tanaka piece.

01 — INSPIRATION

Each piece begins with a feeling, memory, or detail found in nature—water in motion, a flower’s form, shifting light, or the irregular beauty of a pearl.

Rather than reproducing these moments literally, we translate their rhythm and atmosphere into forms meant to be worn, preserving the emotion while allowing each piece to become personal.

02 — DESIGN

The first idea is explored through hand-drawn sketches, material studies, and repeated adjustments to proportion. Curves are softened, lines are redirected, and individual elements are moved until the composition feels natural.

The design is considered from every angle, including how it rests against the skin and changes as the wearer moves. Beauty alone is not enough; every detail must also contribute to comfort, balance, and function. Through this gradual refinement, the original inspiration becomes a piece of jewelry made for everyday life.

02 — DESIGN

The first idea takes shape through hand-drawn sketches, material studies, and careful adjustments to proportion and form. Each design is considered from every angle, balancing beauty with comfort, movement, and function. Through this gradual refinement, the original inspiration becomes a piece that feels natural on the body and made to be lived in.

03 — MATERIAL SELECTION

Pearls and gemstones are individually selected for exceptional luster, color, clarity, proportion, and natural character. We work only with materials that meet our standards for quality, then study each one under different light before deciding its final placement. Rather than forcing absolute uniformity, we preserve the subtle variations that give fine natural materials their depth and individuality.

04 — HANDCRAFTING

In Mie, Japan, skilled artisans bring the design to life through a series of precise, hands-on processes. The metal is shaped, refined, and prepared before each pearl or stone is carefully positioned and secured.

Throughout construction, the piece is repeatedly examined to ensure that the fluidity of the original sketch has not been lost. Transitions between metal, pearl, and stone are softened by hand, allowing the individual materials to feel naturally connected. These gradual adjustments give each piece a depth and character that cannot be achieved through uniform production alone.

04 — HANDCRAFTING

In Mie, Japan, skilled artisans bring each design to life through precise, hands-on craftsmanship. The metal is carefully shaped and refined before every pearl and gemstone is individually positioned and secured. Throughout construction, proportions, transitions, and surface details are adjusted by hand to preserve the fluidity and intention of the original design. These subtle refinements give each piece the depth, balance, and character that cannot be achieved through uniform production alone.

05 — FINAL INSPECTION

Each piece is worn and tested for comfort, balance, movement, and security, with final adjustments made where needed. It is then carefully polished and individually inspected—from stone settings and pearls to clasps and connections—before leaving the atelier.
